Not the Same Old Show: Only Modified Event Of 2017 at Susquehanna Set for Sunday, July 30; Short Track Super Series Event Offers $10,000 to Win!

NEWBERRYTOWN, PA — Tired of the same old show, race fans?

Mark your calendars for Sunday, July 30!

The rejuvenated Susquehanna Speedway is set to host its only big-block/small-block Modified event of the 2017 season when the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP invades the racy Central PA oval for the 16th annual York County Nationals.

Not only is the STSS visit the only Modified appearance at the track all year; it is also among the most lucrative Modified events in the Northeast.

The winner of the STSS Modified 50-lap feature will take home a massive $10,000 payday. A healthy $1,000 awaits the 10th-place finisher, with $400 to take the green flag. This is the richest event of the entire season for the traveling Short Track Super Series.

A year ago, the STSS visit to Susquehanna was dubbed the “race of the season” for the series with three-wide racing prevalent on the Susquehanna red clay.

The Susquehanna layout provided an ideal venue for various engine combinations to shine. Anthony Perrego led much of the event utilizing a big-block engine before a flat tire sidelined his efforts. Ryan Watt, with a sealed spec head engine, survived an early race tangle to drive from 22nd to second.

Ultimately, it was the ‘Ringoes Rocket’ Ryan Godown in an open small-block taking the $5,000-plus payday.

The Susky visit serves as Race No. 5 of the STSS Velocita-USA South Region with $10,000 awarded to the champion at year-end. Three events have been contested thus far, with Big Diamond Speedway in Minersville, Pa., on deck next Sunday, July 16.

The top stars of the STSS South Region are expected including Watt, Godown, Stewart Friesen, Craig Von Dohren, Duane Howard, David Van Horn, Jimmy Horton, Rick Laubach, Billy Pauch Sr. and Jr., Danny Bouc, Jeff Strunk, Jordan Watson, Jamie Mills, Brett Kressley and many more. The field will be spiced up by invaders from New York, New Jersey and more in search of the five-figure top prize.

Joining the STSS Modifieds on the card are the Central PA Legends racing for an increased $500 to win and $50 to take the green thanks to sponsorship support from Service Master Clean.

Pit gates will open at 3 p.m. on July 30. Grandstand gates will be unlocked at 4 p.m. The drivers’ meeting takes place at 5:45 p.m., with hot laps at 6:20 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.

Adult admission is $25 for Adults, $15 (Seniors ages 60 and over & Students ages 13-17). Kids 12 and under are admitted FREE.
