McIntosh Takes in POWRi Triple after another Pair of Strong ASCS Sprint Car Showings
BIXBY, Okla. (April 25, 2019) – It’s back to the Midget Racing ranks for 16-year-old Cannon McIntosh this weekend with a set of Lucas Oil POWRi National events throughout Illinois and Missouri aboard the Dave Mac Motorsports Toyota-TRD Spike No. 08.
The three-race weekend begins at the cozy confines of Belleville Illinois’s 1/5-mile Belle-Clair Speedway before shifting to the high-banked 1/3-mile Federated Auto Parts i-55 Raceway on Saturday. The weekend then concludes on Sunday atop the ¼-mile Jacksonville Speedway in Illinois.
“We’re looking forward to getting back into the Midget this weekend,” McIntosh comments.
While the series championship is the goal, McIntosh has his sights set on trips to victory lane.
“We can’t really worry about points,” McIntosh explains. “We’re just trying to get wins and as many good finishes as we can, the rest of that stuff will work itself out.”
McIntosh comes into the weekend after another pair of strong ASCS Sprint Car Regional showings last weekend.
After earning ASCS Sooner Region Hard Charger efforts the previous weekend at Creek County Speedway, McIntosh raced to a sixth-place finish in Friday night’s ASCS Sooner Region vs NCRA Sprint Car card at Kansas’ Humboldt Speedway and then picked up an 11th-place finish in Saturday’s ASCS Sooner vs. ASCS Mid-South Regional tilt at Pocola, Oklahoma’s Tri-State Speedway.
Following a heat race run from fourth to third on Friday night, McIntosh steered clear of Humboldt feature carnage to climb from tenth to a strong sixth-place finish.
“The track was pretty tricky, I was trying to run the bottom in and get it going but it never quite got there,” Mcintosh explained.
With passing at a premium on Saturday at Tri-State Speedway, McIntosh was mired deep in a heat race and then managed to climb from 15th to claim the 11th position by the time the checkered flag flew.
“I felt like we were pretty good, there just wasn’t a whole lot of passing to be done,” McIntosh sums up.
After showing tremendous speed in each of the four legs of last month’s POWRi Midget “Turnpike Challenge” in Oklahoma, McIntosh looks to add a POWRi score or more to March’s USAC “Shamrock Classic” victory.
