Star Speedway 5/11/19 Race Report

Epping, NH – The Pro All Stars Series Super Late Models rolled into town 23 strong for the running of the Little Webb’s Tire and Fuel 150 on Saturday night, with D.J. Shaw of Center Conway, NH impressively racing from 11th place spot on the starting grid to take down the win.

Shaw earned the point after battling side by side with for several laps with Derek Ramstrom of Worcester, MA, the race winner back in 2017. When Ramstrom spun while working the low groove, Shaw moved to the lead and never looked back, leading the field under the checkers for the victory.

Former Star champion Joe Squeglia of Derry came home with runner-up honors after leading an extended stretch early in the race, with Nick Sweet of Barre, VT closing out the podium in the third spot. Fourth went to six-time PASS champ Johnny Clark of Farmingdale, ME, and Reid Lanpher of Manchester, ME rounded out the top five.

Tommy Tombarello of Haverhill, MA outran polesitter Mike Spurling of Rochester to grab the lead when the green flag waved to start the 350 Super main event, and he dominated the rest of the race to collect his first feature event win of the 2019 campaign.

Spurling held on to the second spot until the five to go mark, when defending champ Dave Helliwell made his way past. Spurling’s night got worse in a hurry when he went sailing off turn two and ended his night on the business end of a wrecker.

Helliwell challenged Tombarello briefly on the restart, but he held strong and went on to post the win. “Hollywood” settled for runner-up, with Mike Collins of Strafford, Kingston’s Jim Storace, Jeffrey Battle of Westford, MA, Bobby Timmons III of Windham, ME, Ryan Gath of Chelmsford, MA, Rich Eaton of Seabrook, James Witkum of Methuen, MA, and Mike Elliott closing out the top ten.

Anthony Belfiore held off a last-lap bid from Jaret Curtis to pick up his first Woody’s Auto Street Stock win of the season, with Jim Storace, “Mad Max” Dolliver, Alby Ovitt, Luke Grammont, Chase Curtis, Dylan Bilodeau, Kenny “Caveman” Scott, and Jim Bolstridge the remainder of the top ten.

Andrew Harmon of Farmington bested Tyler Chase for top honors in the Brickyard Trucking Mini Stock main, while J.T. Cashman picked up the Maddy’s Car Wash Six Shooter win over Joe Roberts, Jr. and Adam Knowles.

Next up at Star on May 18 is the Compact Equipment Services 350 Super Marco Turcotte Memorial, along with Late Models, Street Stocks, Six Shooters, Classic Lites, and the crowd favorite Star Troopers make their 2019 debut.
