World of Outlaws Empire State Challenge Falls to Heavy Rains

WEEDSPORT, NY (May 19, 2019) – Due to heavy afternoon showers, the Weedsport Speedway Empire State Challenge, featuring the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series, has been canceled.

There will be no rain date for this event.

Beautiful blue skies greeted fans and race teams all morning and afternoon, until a driving set of showers opened over the Speedway around 4 p.m., leaving unmanageable standing water.

“The sun was shining all afternoon, this is tough,” said Weedsport Speedway Promoter, Jimmy Phelps. “Showers avoided us all afternoon and it looked as though we were going to be in good shape, but the heavy shower before 4 p.m. put us too far behind.”

Fans who pre-purchased tickets online will receive a refund back to the card they used for purchase. Those with questions can contact the Weedsport Speedway office at (315) 834-3067.

Weedsport Speedway’s opening event will now be the Heroes Remembered 100 for the Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modifieds on Monday, May 27. The 100-lap special will pay $7,500 to the winner.

Joining the Big Blocks will be the DIRTcar Sportsman and the CRSA Sprints.
