Lee USA Speedway 5/31/19 Race Report

Lee, NH – “Billistic” Bill Helliwell of Pelham is quickly becoming the man to beat at Lee USA Speedway, as he scored his second straight win in the Rodfather Late Model Sportsman division in the first weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series program of the 2019 racing season on Friday night.

Picking up where he left off in the May Madness show two weeks earlier, Helliwell raced past polesitter and defending LMS champion Frankie Eldredge of Stratham to take the outside groove to the lead, and he went the distance from there to post the win.

Kris Miller of Bedford checkered second, with Kingston’s Bobby Baillargeon, Jimmy Russell of Exeter, and Kris Schroeder of Haverhill, MA third through fifth.  Paul Palen of Pelham scored sixth, with Jesse Bousquet of Pittsfield, Natasha Dyer of Tamworth, Eldredge, and George Helliwell of Pelham rounding out the top ten.

Alby Ovitt of Somersworth dominated the action in the Race Parts NH Street Stock main, once again finding his way to his favorite piece of local real estate, Lee USA’s victory lane.  Ovitt was virtually unbeatable on his way to the 2018 championship, and he started out the new campaign in similar fashion with another trip to the winner’s circle.

Former two-time champ Patrick Tanguay of Lebanon, ME claimed runner-up honors, with Lewis Anderson of Hollis, ME, Chris “Rooftop” Harding of Lebanon, ME, Jacob Michaud of Lebanon, ME, “Piranha Pete” Evans of Berwick, ME, Evon McConolos of West Newfields, Travis Hollins of Milford, and Cam Huntress of Rochester next in the finishing order.

Brandon Mailhot of Epping picked up the win in the first O’Reilly Auto Parts Six Shooter main event of the season, outrunning Seabrook’s Adam Knowles, 2017 champion Christin DeStefano of Tewksbury, MA, Paul Childs of Derry, and Shane Horvath of Northwood to pick up the win.

Hometown favorite Kaycie Kustra of Lee took home sixth place honors, with double-duty Chris Harding, Gary Grenier of Lebanon, ME, Jesse Tellier of Pelham, and Zach Washburn of Rochester the rest of the top ten.

Shawn Lessard of Farmington picked up his first career win in the MLM Diagnostic Services Pure Stock feature, followed by Jonathan Provost of Hudson, Justin Faford of Westminster, MA, Syd Parker of Barrington, Skeeter Bearce of Milford, Jaden Curtis of Buxton, ME, Mitch Boivon of Derry, Timothy French of Campton, and Tommy Kenny of Center Ossipee.
