The Everett’s Auto Parts Late Models just don’t disappoint.
Although there was a little bit of contact in the final corner, it was another classic battle to the finish of round two of the Phil’s Propane Triple Crown Series 50 lap feature on Saturday. In the end, it was reigning champion Ryan Kuhn holding the checkered flag. Kuhn started fourth, but slowly worked his way to the back of the field on the outside lane. He fell as far back as ninth, but didn’t let that end his chances.
Kuhn worked back to the front, and heading into the final corner, a little bit of contact to the left-rear of leader Mark Jenison sent Jenison up the track and Kuhn by to the lead. After spending some time touring with the ACT Tour, Kuhn returned home and showed the rest of the field he could still get the job done. Vinnie Arrenegado was second, while Jension settled for third.
The Helger’s Southcoast Power Equipment Sportsman division also went down to the wire. Early, it was former champion Sparky Arsenault showing the way for the first time this season, trying to shake a rusty start off his back. He led the first 22 circuits in the power five feature, but it just wasn’t meant to be. Points leader Tyler Lallier muscled his way to the inside of Arsenault in turn three, used a bit of contact to kick him out of the way, and drove to the victory in the final laps, extending his points lead. Kyle Casper earned his second consecutive podium finish, while Paul Lallier snuck in for third.
After a tough week in the race prior, the Seekonk Sports Trucks were clean and green for the most part. In the end, it was Barry Shaw Jr., a veteran of the division, earning another victory. Shaw took the lead on lap eight from his third-place starting position, and wasn’t going to be denied. Ed Perry, who was looking for his second straight win, settled for second after chasing Shaw down in the final laps. And it was nice to see former Pure Stock champion Andrew Kun pit twice during the feature and still manage to charge back for third.
In the Pro Stocks, it was the defending champion showing the way around once again. David Darling started sixth, and was chasing down another former champion, Rick Martin, in the final laps. Before long, he was cutting to the bottom and taking the advantage for good. Fred Astle came home second, with his best run of the year, while Martin was third.
