Lee USA Speedway 6/26/20 Race Report

Lee, NH – Another round of NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series racing went into the record books at Lee USA Speedway on Friday night, with Stratham’s Frankie Eldredge establishing himself as the man to beat in the Rodfather Late Model Sportsmen, posting his second feature win of the young season.

By virtue of a win in his qualifying heat, Eldredge found himself on the pole for the 40-lap main event, but he had trouble getting up to speed when the green waved, dropping back to third.  Groton, MA veteran Bobby Melvin moved past and picked up the point in the early going, setting the pace for the first six laps.

Those six laps were all it took for Eldredge to collect himself, and he motored back by Melvin on lap seven to take the lead.  Once out front, he was off and running, leading the remainder of the event to score a convincing win for the second straight week.

George Helliwell of Salem rebounded from an early-race spin to cross the stripe in the runner-up slot, with Melvin, Kris Miller of Bedford, and Steve Paquette of North Hampton rounding out the top five finishers.

It was all Jimmy Renfrew, Jr. in the R&R Public Wholesalers “The Tool Store and More” Street Stocks, as the Candia driver ran off to his second consecutive win in the 30-lapper.  Renfrew was clicking off some impressive lap times on the way to victory, and he took the checkers with a comfortable margin over the rest of the field.

Rochester’s Cam Huntress was the best of the rest, posting his highest finish of the year in second.  Third went to Kenny “Caveman” Scott of Salem , followed by Ben Bosowski, Paul Palen, Jason Kozacka, Devon McConologue, Travis Hollins, Dan Bernier, and “Piranha Pete” Evans.

Fan-favorite Christin DeStefano checkered fourth, with David Piper, Nathan LeClair, Gary Grenier, Brandon Mailhot, Tom “Hulk” Harton, and defending Six Shooter champion Adam Knowles closing out the top ten.
