National Auto Racing Publications Archive Launched

Dan St. Pierre is an active fan of the sport of auto racing. He is currently scanning the scrapbooks of short track legend Butch Lindley. His latest project is due to Dick Glines of Mount Washington Valley Fabrication and Mike Beam of GMS Racing.

The Speedway Scene newspaper is the first newspaper to be added to his site. St. Pierre intends to scan more newspapers and programs to include on his webpage.

With the support of Valarie LeSieur Tucker, Speedway Scene has been given a digital home. The Massachusetts-based trade paper gave thorough coverage of New England’s local tracks and regional tours, up to NASCAR’s national series.

The newspaper was published by Val LeSieur from 1971-2006. Val was inducted into the 2011 New England Auto Racing Hall of Fame. He served as a president and treasurer for the New England Antique Racers organization before his passing last year.

This project preserves a significant newspaper to the area’s racing history. Without this newspaper, much of our local sport’s history would be lost. For myself, it was the foundation of most of my local track champions and winners compilations. Kudos to everyone for making this happen.
