Star Speedway 7/5/20 Race Report

Epping, NH – Star Speedway held a special Sunday afternoon program to celebrate the Fourth of July weekend, with new faces finding their way to victory lane in all five divisions that were in action.

Mike Collins of Strafford outran Tommy Tombarello to score the win in the 350 Supermodifieds, while Bryan Kruczek topped the Late Models, Nathan LeClair scored the Six Shooter win, Mike Ramsey won the Slingshot main, and Maggie Clark notched career win number one in the Pure Stock feature.

The three 350 Super heats were won by Tombarello, Bill Fiske, and Collins to set the field for the main, where an impressive field of 22 cars took the green from flagman Steve Gran.  The action was fast and furious throughout the field, but once Collins got to the front, he was unstoppable.

At the checkers, it was Collins in for the win, with Tombarello, Jeffrey Battle, Dave Helliwell, Eddie Witkum, Jr., Bill Helliwell, Mike Keddy, Mike Netishen, Rich Eaton, and Steve Duphily rounding out the top ten.

Kruczek had to work his way from sixth on the starting grip to make his way to the point in the Ken Izzett Construction LM main, eventually overtaking second-generation racer Ryan Kuhn to grab the top spot.

Kruczek led the rest of the way to score the win in the Vynorius Piledriving-sponsored machine, with Kuhn next across the line in second.  Connor McDougal took home third place honors, with the son/father duo of Erick and Jay Sands closing out the top five finishers.

The Mia’s Jewelry Slingshots ran their second race event of the year, and it produced their second winner as well.  Mike Ramsey had picked up a sixth place finish in the season opener, but he improved dramatically to lead the field across the stripe this time out.

Nathan LeClair outran the field to pick up his first Six Shooter win of 2020, with Josh Bilodeau, rookie Joey Fraser, Jason Hodgdon, and Travis Flanders finishing up the top five.

Maggie Clark overtook veteran Jim Walsh to gain the lead in the Pure Stocks, and “The Magster” led him to the stripe to pick up the win.  Jon Provost rounded out the podium in third.
