Woody Pitkat, Stan Mertz Racing Return to Seekonk With Winning in Mind
WHITINSVILLE, Mass. — After a few weeks off, Stan Mertz Racing and driver Woody Pitkat will return to open-wheel Modified racing in one of the biggest races of the year this Wednesday, June 30. Set to return to Seekonk Speedway for the first time in over one year, the Tri Track Open Modified Series will compete in the Speed51 Modified Madness event, worth $10,000 to the feature winner.
Stan Mertz Racing hopes to hold that big check at the end of what will be a competitive night of racing at the Massachusetts third-mile. With more than 40 cars expected, qualifying into the race successfully will be the first goal of the night.
The second, will be to nail the strategy, and be there at the end to compete for the big prize. Pitkat enters the night sixth in the Tri Track Open Modified Series championship standings, just 16 points from the top, as the series hits the halfway point of the six-race schedule.
“I just think the group that we have with the Tri Track Series, it is just a great group of people to race with,” Pitkat said. “People are realizing it, and you see it with how many people are coming. Seekonk has never been one of my favorite places to drive — but I feel like I figured it out the last few times I have run there, with a few second-place finishes, and a Pro 4 Modified win in the bag. If you can get in the race, you can have a good day. Anyone can win. It’s going to be a challenge.”
Practice for Tri Track teams will be one-hour, lasting from 3:45-4:45 p.m., while qualifying heat races will begin at 6:30 p.m., kicking off a full night of racing action. The Tri Track Open Modified Series will run heats, consi races, and the 100-lap feature that will conclude the night. The 350 SMAC Supermodifieds and the NEMA Lites will also join the show.
General admission grandstand tickets are $30 for adults, with children 6-12 years old set at $10. Any kids five and under can enter the grandstands for free.
