CHASING THE CHECK: Tri Track Stars To Battle For $10,000 Wednesday at Seekonk Speedway

SEEKONK, Mass. — The lights will come on this Wednesday night at Seekonk Speedway with $10,000 on the line.

Almost two months after a power outage in the area postponed the Tri Track Open Modified Series Speed51.TV Modified Madness, the stars of the open-wheel Modified division will return to the third-mile this Wednesday, August 25, for the 100-lap feature. Prior to the outage in June, all qualifying races were completed, including five heat races and two consi events. A field of 26 drivers qualified into the show, with two provisionals awarded by officials, and a starting field of 28 set to take the green flag this week. Twenty-seven of them are expected back on Wednesday to decide the race.

Cam McDermott and five-time series champion Matt Hirschman will lead the field to green from the front after redrawing to the front row. Brian Robie and rising star Blake Barney will start in row two, followed by Ron Silk, Les Hinckley, Doug Coby, Chase Dowling, Justin Bonsignore and Anthony Nocella. The field includes multiple previous winners of Open Wheel Wednesday and all three of the feature winners in Tri Track competition so far this season.

With four of six races complete, and only the two Seekonk dates left to run, Hirschman leads the championship standings by 19 points over Silk. Hirschman won the 10th annual SBM at Star Speedway on July 24; while the most recent series winner, Dowling, who won at Monadnock Speedway on August 14, is third, 23 points back in the standings. Bonsignore and Ronnie Williams finish the top-five.

The race marks the ninth of 10 rounds in the Call 811 Before You Dig Modified Challenge, worth $8,111 to the winner. Points are tallied by combining the six Tri Track events and the four Stafford Motor Speedway Open Modified shows, with 10 points going to the winner of each race, nine to second, eight for third, and down through the top-10.

Heading into Seekonk, Dowling leads Williams by five in the standings, with Ryan Preece seven back and Hirschman 16 points out. Preece will not make it to the track on Wednesday, as the NASCAR Cup Series driver has previous obligations. Those four competitors are the only that are mathematically still in contention.

The race day schedule includes one practice session from 5:30-6:10 p.m., followed by the drop of the green flag for feature racing just after 7 p.m. The 350 SMAC Supermodifieds and the NEMA Lites will also join the show to run their feature racing.

All tickets and pit passes that were purchased for the original Wednesday, June 30, date, will be honored on Wednesday if the ticket holder still has them in their possession. Additional tickets will also be available at the track for purchase for those who couldn’t make it the first time. For those who can’t make it, a live PPV will be available on Speed51.TV.
