Doug Coby Grabs Third-Place Finish at Thompson Speedway

THOMPSON, Conn. – Doug Coby returned to NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour racing for the first time this season with his own No. 10 Mayhew Tools team on Thursday night. Competing in the Phoenix Communications 150 at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, Coby qualified inside the top-five and had a race filled with ups and downs, moving throughout the field.

After being involved in two separate wrecks, Coby charged through the pack late to get into the top-five, and eventually worked his way to the second spot for the final restart. While Craig Lutz drove to Victory Lane, Coby slid back to third, but completed the night with a solid top-five finish.

The day included a top-five effort in practice, Mayhew Tools qualifying, and the 150-lap main event.

“This is a brand new car and our first Tour race of the season tonight,” Coby said. “Really proud of my guys – especially John, Josh, and Alex for putting it together and Mayhew Tools for supporting us. It’s not easy to start Whelen Modified Tour racing in August. Our effort was great and I think we have a fast piece, so I’ll be looking forward to returning to Thompson for the World Series later this season.”
