(Sophia, NC):  The Davidson County residents that visited Caraway Speedway Saturday night got their fill of “grassroots” racing as the speedway gave them fourteen races to enjoy.  Some were wild and exciting and some maybe not so much but that is just the nature of the beast in weekly racing these days.

The night started with two-time Caraway Champion, Jason York leading wire to wire in the first of two 35 lappers for the features Late Model division.  York started from the “pole” position by virtue of his number one qualifying time. York bested ‘Boo Boo” Dalton, winner of the track’s season opener, Brian Rose and Toby Layne in qualifying and made the best of his starting spot to take the win over Rose, Chase Murphy, Layne, and Camden Thomas.  Dalton faded to sixth ahead of Brando Cox and Jeffery Wood in the rundown.

York drew the six pill for the invert for race two putting Dalton on the “pole” for the start ahead of Thomas, Murphy, and Layne.  Dalton checked out on the field as Murphy, Layne, and York took turns chasing down Dalton’s #50.  The final rundown saw York in the runner-up spot over Layne, Rose, and Murphy.  Thomas, Wood, and Cox completed the field.  The late Models return on April 15th.

In the Challenger features, Enoch McNeill made the most of his return to Caraway Speedway by taking the measure of the field to win both twenty-lap features for the division.

McNeill, Brody Duggins, and Allen Vance took turns at the point before McNeill dispatched Vance on lap eight. McNeill led the rest of the way to take the win over Vance, Diggins, Caleb Allred, and D.J. Dean.  Kyler Kepley finished sixth ahead of Matthew Smith, Brian Melville, Nicholas Graham, Anthony Bennett, and Christian Henderson.

McNeill had a tougher time in race two as Kyler Kepley led 14 laps before McNeill made his way from his sixth starting spot.  Kepley had done a good job on the start, getting away from Dean and holding off Vance to lead the first ¾ of the race before McNeill slopped past for the win. Kepley held on to finish second with Dean in third. Duggins and Caleb Allred finished out the top five. Smith, Bennett, Melville, Graham, Allen Vance, and Henderson completed the rundown.

Mitchell Wright slipped away from the field in the first of two twenty-lappers for the 602 Modified.  Justice Calabro finished second ahead of Jacob Creed and Billy Gregg.  Gregg made some adjustments to his $98 and returned the favor in race two.  Calabro, Wright, and Creed finished out the field for race two.

Daniel Hughes returned to form taking the first ten-lap feature for the UCARs. Steven Collins finished second ahead of Josh Phillips, Sammy Bullins, and Jon Morton.  Blair Patterson finished sixth with Jeremy Kidd, Justin Smith, Jason Beck, Barry Hines, Tristian Clapp, Steven Hedrick, and Mason Vance completing the field.

In race two, Collins returned to his winning ways by holding off Josh Phillips to take the win. Hughes finished third with Smith and Hines, Beck, Clapp, Kidd, Hedrick, and Patterson completing the top ten.  Vance, Morton, and Bullins wrapped up the rundown.

Jon Morton won both “Bootleggers’ ten lappers and Tommy Raino took the checkered flag in two Caraway Stock features.

Bryson Brinkley tangled with Wyatt Coffey as they crossed the finish line with Brinkley coming across first before crashing into the front straightaway concrete.  Coffey finished second with Killian McMann, Alison Johnson fourth and Owen Zacharias in fifth at the stripe.  Bryson Nichols, Mason Gobbic, and “Fireball” Colber wrapping up the field.

London McKenzie took home the trophy in a hard-fought 25-lap feature for the US Legends Cars. Several caution periods slowed the action before McKenzie took the checkered flag over Noah Dulin and Alex Meggs.  Nathan Lyons and Kaeden Ballos.  Josh Lowe finished sixth ahead of Ethan Truell, Austin Sams, Charles Parker, Lance Griffith, Olivia Murray, and Tyler Miske.
