Don Moon Passes Away

Donald T. Moon
December 24, 1943 – August 3, 2023

Donald Moon of Plainville, CT passed away at home on August 3, 2023, at the age of 79 shortly after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Don grew up on his family’s farm where, working alongside his uncles, he developed the strength and work ethic that served him well as the owner and operator of Don Moon’s Auto Repair for 35 years. But cars were more than a job for Don, they were a passion. He began racing at 15 and a half years old and continued for the next 23 years. After he retired from racing, he put his heart and soul into keeping the memories of Plainville Stadium alive, archiving the history of the stadium, and planning and organizing 14 reunions. Don and his 1955 Ford Crown Victoria were also fixtures at cruise nights all over New England.

With his deep, booming voice and his ever-present cowboy boots, Western shirts, and turquoise jewelry, Don was a larger-than-life presence who greeted everyone with a “How ya doing?” and delighted in making the people around him smile. He was devoted to his friends and family and spent as much time as he could catching up with the people he loved, either over the phone or over coffee and pastries.

Don is preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Moon, his father, Joseph Moon, and his grandson, Dalton Stuart. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Moon, his son, Donald Moon, his daughter, Maureen Stuart, his son-in-law, Logan Stuart, and his granddaughter, Shaylin Stuart.

Calling hours for Don will be held on Friday, August 18th from 4-8 p.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Southington. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Plainville Historical Society (www.plainvillehistoricalsociety.com) or Plainville’s Hometown Connection (www.plainvilleshometownconnection.com).
