Charles Springsteel Passes Away

October 13, 1923 – February 5, 2024

Charles C. Springsteel passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Spring Creek Nursing Center in Perth Amboy. He was 100 years old.

Born in Belleville on October 13, 1923, to the late May and John Springsteel, he was a longtime resident of Rahway.

Mr. Springsteel was a longtime auto mechanic at Rahway Chevrolet before retiring at 65. He would return to work as an auto parts delivery driver with Sullivan Chevrolet in Roselle Park before his final retirement at age 79.

He was a proud United States Marine Corps veteran, serving with the 1st Marine Division on Guadalcanal during World War II.

Charlie spent years as a race car owner and avid race fan. His favorite place was the turn 4 grandstand at Wall Stadium where he spent many Saturday nights, well into his 90s.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Malvina Springsteel (nee Trevena), in 2015; and son, Stephen Springsteel, in 2022.

Surviving are his children, Linda Kavejon, and her husband, Carl, of Fords, and Michael Springsteel and his wife, Penny, of Saint Petersburg, FL; daughter-in-law, Joyce Springsteel; grandchildren, Kayla Foley, Charlie Kuzma, Jennifer Springsteel, Michael Springsteel and John Springsteel; nine great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Willie Trevena and his wife, Joan; sister-in-law Martha Trevena; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services were private under the direction of Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, Woodbridge.
