Dan Dempsey Passes Away

Corporal Aime “Danny” Eldon Dempsey
October 12, 1947 – February 10, 2024

Burnham – Corporal Aime “Danny” Eldon Dempsey, 76, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family at his bedside on February 10th, 2024. Danny was born in Fort Kent on October 12th, 1947. Son of Gordon Patrick and Nellie Marie (Vosine) Dempsey. He attended Waterville public schools and received his G.E.D. through the United States Military.

He proudly served the United States Marine Corps from 1964-1971. He attended Crash Rescue School in Memphis, Tennessee where he completed Tactics of Marine Rifle Squad, Corrections, Marine NCO, Engineer Equipment Machine, Auto Engine Access and Clutches, and Motor Vehicle Operating courses. During his duration in the Marines, he received a Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal with three stars, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and a Vietnamese Service Medal with Device. After Honorable Discharge, Danny opened multiple businesses in NH including Double D Welding, Dempsey Full Service Garage, and co-owned D&D Snowmobile Repair.

Danny enjoyed anything with a motor. Racing was a big part of his life, up and down the East Coast. He had many wins and was known on the circuit as “Dynamite Dan”. He was also known as “The Tech Man” at Unity Raceway. He enjoyed car and BMX racing with his son Dan and daughter Mary and go-cart racing with his daughter Tabby. He was a temporary member of the Waterville American Legion and the American Legion Riders. He was often seen at Dunkin Donuts in Waterville ready to put his kick stand up and ride in the wind.

He had his favorite places to eat such as Jersey Mike’s, Erica’s Restaurant, and Governors. Danny enjoyed meeting and talking to new people. He could start a conversation with anyone. He was well-known to his family and friends for his words of wisdom and advice. Not many could get through a conversation without laughter, as he enjoyed sharing jokes and making people laugh and smile. Danny enjoyed Willies Roadhouse music and karaoke and dancing night at the Eagles Club in Gardiner with his wife on a Friday night. He especially loved it when his granddaughter Miranda would sing to him.

He was predeceased by his parents Gordon and Nellie Dempsey; sisters Bernadette Paradis and Thelma Perry; brothers Dale and Gerry Dempsey; daughter Tabithia “Tabby” Lawson; nephews Dale Paradis, Glenn Paradis, and Jay Hawes; and great-great-niece Emmalynn Brooks.

Danny is survived by his loving wife of 11 years, Tammy Dempsey; children Aime “Danny” Dempsey of Hampton, NH and Mary Dempsey of Clinton; step-children Rodney Blaisdell Jr. with wife Krystal of Clinton, Brandon Blaisdell with wife Gabrielle of Burnham, Abigail Hanson with husband Jeremy of Skowhegan, Alexandra Blaisdell with partner Greg of Hartland; sisters Karen Elliot of Waterville and Gayle Workman with husband Larry of Oakland; his favorite people were his grandchildren; Woody, Miranda, Harper-Rose, Olivia, Carter, Severide, Lucas, Dominic, Hunter, Beckham and Finley; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and also special friend Ed Wilchusen.

A committal ceremony will be held on March 1st, 2024, at 2:00 pm, at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 143 Blue Star Avenue, Augusta, Maine.

A celebration of life will be held immediately following at the Winslow VFW, 175 Veteran Dr. Winslow, Maine, at 3:00 pm. This will be a potluck, as Danny always loved good food, so please bring your favorite dish.
