TTOMS Announces 2 New London-Waterford Races
LONG ISLAND, N.Y. The Tri-Track Open Modified Series (TTOMS) announced two more dates for their 2016 schedule on Friday morning, with a double return to the New London-Waterford Speedbowl in Connecticut on tap for the organization.
The Speedbowl will host the first of the two races on Thursday night Aug. 25, with $10,000 up for grabs to the winner of the 100 lap feature. A second event will be on Sunday, Oct. 23 as part of the 2nd annual “Bemer’s Big Show.”
“I think the most important thing is that there a such a wide variety of all the touring divisions that come together, it’s the ultimate race of talent and the guys that put the show on care so much about the drivers and the teams. We’re really excited to have Tri-Track back again,” said Speedbowl General Manager Shawn Monahan. “There were a few dates other series had so we weren’t able to go with the original plan and with potential construction going on, it was too risky to do an April race like I had talked about with Dick Williams. We decided to go with the Thursday night [in August] and as for the October date, that October show is going to be a knockout deal.”
The format for the October show is still undecided at this point — though the format for the August show will be the classic heat races, consolations and B-main leading up to the 100 lap feature for a $10,000 payday.
The addition of the Waterford Thursday night race makes three $10,000 to win features already scheduled for the 2016 season. Events at Seekonk Speedway (June 29) and Star Speedway (July 30) will also have a prize of $10,000 for the winner.
In 2015, the Tri-Track Series ran two races at Waterford with one in September and the other in October. Woody Pitkat scored the win in the 65 lap race in October, but it was Ron Silk winning the 100 lapper in September.
Defending Tri-Track Series champion Matt Hirschman said that the addition of Waterford to the schedule will provide some exciting racing for fans in Connecticut.
“Waterford is a track I really like, but it is probably the toughest on the schedule because of the experience many drivers in the field have there,” Hirschman said. ”The other Tri-Track Open Modified Series venues have modifieds there as only special events, where Waterford runs SK’s weekly and a lot of drivers came up through there at some point in their career. The place produces some great side by side racing where sometimes the outside can be to your advantage.”
Three of the four races scheduled for 2016 will be part of the championship point fund, with a final decision on which three races to be announced in the near future.
The series continues to work with the sponsors from the 2015 season, hoping to secure them once again for the upcoming campaign. Race teams are encouraged to begin preparation for the 2016 season. Series officials will be contacting drivers from across the Northeast in early January to begin the registration process for the year ahead.
