Fast Friday series begins at Seekonk Speedway with Jake Spillers, Casey Sanchez, and Bob Hinckley in Victory Lane

Seekonk, MA — Friday night, June 6th opened the 2nd season for the Fast Friday series at Seekonk Speedway for the Seekonk Youth Racing Association and the Pure Stocks highlighting the action. The first feature on the docket was the SYRA 600 25 lap feature. Kaitlyn Donovan of Waterford, Ct. and Bob Perry of Holbrook Ma brought the field down. Kaitlyn would lead early on and set the pace for the first handful of laps, opening up a lead of 3 car lengths at times. While she was setting the pace, Adam Swift was working his way through the field from his 7th place start. By lap 7, he was starting to close in the distance to Kaitlyn. Following him through the field was Medeiros Jr. and Jake Spillers. By lap 10, they were running in a single line with Kyle DeSouza rounding out the top 5. Just as the field was coming through turn 3 and 4, Glen Deming of N. Scituate RI spun his Deming Disposal #24 in turn two, bringing out the first yellow.

Coming down to complete lap eleven, the back end of Kaitlyn’s black and purple #95 came out from underneath her, as she spun in front of the field. She was able to keep out of harms way, but she was relegated to the rear of the field. This handed the lead over to Fairhaven’s Adam Swift. His lead was short lived however, as Jake Spillers was able to make the pass for the lead before they got into turn 1. On lap 11, Deming would spin again in turn 2, bringing out the third caution of the event. Once green again, Spillers would put his GRC Steel Taurus at the top of the field. At the halfway point, the top five was Spillers, Medeiros, Swift, Dave Hutchins, and Kyle DeSouza. On lap 17, Hutchins would spin his Hutchins and Son’s Enterprises #96 coming off turn 4.

On the restart, Jason Enos would have mechanical problems, and tried to make it back into the pits. He wouldn’t be able to, and the yellow dropped for the final time. Once again, Spillers would set the pace once back to green. On lap 20, Carl Medeiros Jr. started to have problems of his own, and was forced to retire. That moved Swift back up into second. While they ran nose to tail, Kyle DeSouza kept his Phil’s Propane #88 in the hunt right behind. At lap 20, Spillers, Swift, DeSouza, and Hutchins rounded out the top five. As the laps wore down, Spillers opened up his lead t0 3 car lengths, and held on to win the first Fast Friday feature of the season. Adam Swift held on for second, with DeSouza, Branden Dion and Kaitlyn Donovan rounding out the top 5.

In the 750 class, it was first year 750 competitor Casey Sanchez giving his parents a 15th wedding anniversary gift they won’t soon forget. Stephen Gardiner Jr of Plymouth MA. and Sanchez would bring the field down for the green, in a race that would go non-stop. Sanchez quickly moved to the top of the field, and would not relinquish it until the checkered fell. By the time the field had hit the halfway point, Kyle Kuchta of Niantic Ct. had worked his way from 7th, to the rear bumper of Sanchez, and would continue to attempt to find a way to the front. Dylan Estrella was running third, with Derek Anderson, who started last, and Nick Ladyga running fifth. The top 5 were running under a blanket, as they were running 2 and 3 abreast.

Just past the halfway point, Derek Anderson got crossed up down the front stretch, and nearly clipped the wall. Not only did he save it, he only lost one position, and never lost momentum. The battle continued between the Alegre Motorsports Impala of Sanchez and the PMW Marine machine of Kuchta. Kuchta would slide back over the last 5 laps, allowing Dylan Estrella, Anderson, and Nick Ladyga to slide past. As the checkered flag flew, it was Casey Sanchez putting the La Sonrisa Restaurant #5 under the checkered flag first. Following Sanchez was Estrella, Anderson, Kuchta, and Ladyga. Brian Mondeau, Stephen Gardiner, and Chris Igo rounding out the field.

The Pure Stocks were the final event of the night, and they did not disappoint at all.  Bob Hinckley of Acushnet MA and Nicholas Uhrig of Warwick Ri sat on the front row as Tim Bolduc dropped the green flag on the field. Hinckley would grab the initial lead, with Uhrig staying right beside him. The two drivers would swap the lead several times throughout the 25 lap main event. The cars on the move were the Memorial Day winner Scott Cestodio and reigning champion Bill Chouinard. They had cracked the top 5 by lap 13.

On lap 18, Cestodio would pull his Towncartravel.com Monte Carlo off the track with an overheating problem. Between laps 13 through 23, the lead would change hands 5 times between the two drivers, as they ran side by side, with Hinckley’s Glassman Auto Sales Monte Carlo would run the outside of Uhrig’s Camaro.  On lap 23, Hinckley would finally take the lead for the final time when he was able to pull down and close the door on Uhrig. By that time, Chouinard had made his way up into third. On the final lap, he was able to overtake Uhrig for second, while sophomore competitor Bob Hinckley was able to break into Victory Lane for the first time. Chouinard, Mark Boisvert, Uhrig, and Russ Lambert rounded out the top 5.

The Fast Friday series continues each Friday night throughout the month of September. Only $5.00 to get in the main gate, which includes the Go Kart racing that is set up in the back pit area. Come down and see the stars of the future as they grow.
