Star Speedway 5/4/19 Race Report

Epping, NH – Saturday night marked the return of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing to Star Speedway, with veteran Charlie Rose taking down the win in the Ken Izzett Construction Late Models, and Dylan Bilodeau topping the Woody’s Auto Street Stocks.

J.T. Cashman made it two in a row in the Maddy’s Car Wash Six Shooters, Jacquelyn Foster scored her first win of the season in the L & W Auto Repair Powder Puff, and Mikey LeFort nabbed the checkers in the Lucky 13 Fast 4’s.

It was also opening night for Star’s 350 Supermodifieds, with a strong field on hand to contest their first event of the season.  Third generation racer Bobby Timmons III of Windham, ME broke out from the pole to set the early pace, but he was quickly under attack from last year’s top rookie, Jeffrey Battle of Westford, MA.

Battle moved to the outside groove and took the lead, going on to score a convincing win in the season opener.  Mike Collins checkered in the runner-up spot, with defending champion Dave Helliwell rounding out the podium in third.

Rose didn’t earn the point until late in his feature event, but once there, he led them under the checkers to post the win.  Josh Hedges was next across the stripe, with Bryan Kruczek, Tom Mackey, and Jeremy Lillie rounding out the top five.

Former champions Ron Bolduc and Sammy Peabody tangled early in the Street Stock main while battling up front, handing the lead over the Alby Ovitt, winner of the Bunny Brawl feature event just a week earlier.  Ovitt held serve for the next several laps, but Bilodeau soon joined him at the head of the field.

Working the outside line to perfection, Bilodeau inched his way past Ovitt to a lead he would never relinquish, collecting his first Star win in several years.  Bill Clement was up in the late laps to checker second, with Anthony Belfiore, Ovitt, and Bolduc finishing up the top five.

Foster outran Bunny Brawl winner Luann Sawyer and Tina Wilson for the Powder Puff win, Cashman outfinished Adam Knowles, Joe Roberts, Jr., Scott Byron, and Brandon Flanders in the Six Shooter main, and LeFort was joined on the Fast 4 podium by Tim Bolger, Jr. and Tyler Almeida.

Next up at Star is the Pro All Stars Series Little Webb’s Tire and Fuel 150 for Super Late Models on May 11, along with 350 Supermodifieds, Mini Stocks, Street Stocks, and Six Shooters.
