Modified Racers Reunion Set for New Smyrna on Feb. 15, 2008

We are pleased to announce Florida’s first of its kind event to honor the pioneers of Modified racing. We are hosting a Northeast Modified drivers Reunion, to be held at New Smyrna Speedway on Friday, February 15th. 2008. This is the date of the annual Richie Evans Memorial 100, during Speedweeks. It will be an afternoon event, so as not to conflict with the racing programs being held at New Smyrna Speedway, Volusia Speedway Park and Daytona International Speedway.

Initial response has been tremendous, with participation by both Asphalt and Dirt racers. In only one month of preparations, we have received entries from Dutch Hoag, Bugs Stevens, Bill Wimble, Pete Hamilton, Doug Heveron, and dozens more.

There will also be an Antique/Vintage racecar display, with many types of cars entered. There will be Sprints, Midgets, Modifieds, Stock Cars, and Supermodifieds coming. The owners of these cars would love to share the history of these machines and the stories behind them.

Some other exciting things planned include a Live radio broadcast by RealRacinUSA, a Slot Car Speedway featuring Coupe-bodied cars, and an original Richie Evans Pinto which will also be pacing the field for the 100 lap feature.

Some fans and drivers are bringing scrapbooks, old photos, and other memorabilia which should bring back some memories, and stir up an old story or two.  There will also be a Souvenir Program available to collect autographs from your heroes from days gone by.

This event is free to all that are interested in attending. It is being hosted by lifelong fans, as a way to honor those drivers who have shaped our lives into being the racing fanatics that we are. We don’t care if you’ve won a hundred Features, or never won a Heat race, you’re all equally important to the race fans. Without you as drivers, we wouldn’t be fans in the first place. We want to give all of them our personal Thanks!

Please visit our web-site for all details, updates, and current Drivers List. It is being updated regularly, so check back often. It is also the place for drivers and cars to enter and be included in our Souvenir Program. Make your plans now to attend, and we hope to see you all there in February. If you’d like to enter, have any questions, or would like to be informed of the latest news, please sign our guest book, or feel free to contact me personally.
